NARCOTICS UNIT
THE RISK OF USING DRUGS
Illicit or illegal drugs have a range of harmful effects – both short and long term.

Substance use can result in missed work or school, engagement in dangerous situations like driving under the influence, and can lead to legal issues related to substances. Additionally, ongoing substance use may disrupt friendships and family relationships. Recognized as a medical brain disorder, substance use disorder encompasses the misuse of illegal substances such as marijuana, heroin, cocaine, and methamphetamine, highlighting the serious impact on individuals and their communities.

According to a study, the average age at which individuals begin experimenting with drugs is 13 years old.
PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE SOLUTION
Our narcotics detection dogs are expertly trained to identify a variety of controlled substances, including marijuana, methamphetamine, cocaine, heroin, and MDMA. We take pride in our comprehensive training programs that prepare our dogs for vehicle searches, building searches, package inspections, open areas, lockers, and workspaces. Additionally, we have the capability to customize training to detect specific narcotic odors based on your organization's needs, ensuring effective and targeted support in drug detection efforts.
THE PROS KNOW
Drugs can be extremely dangerous, especially for those who do not fully understand their effects. At Byers K9, we leverage years of expertise in narcotics handling, drawing on the law enforcement backgrounds of many team members, our comprehensive training programs, and partnerships with various organizations. It's not just about deploying a trained dog to detect substances; it's about comprehending the impact of narcotics on individuals. Our aim goes beyond merely removing these substances—we strive to ensure safety for everyone involved in the process.
HOW DOES IT WORK
Our contract is governed by a confidentiality agreement, ensuring that all findings remain discreet and strictly private. If a K9 alerts to a suspected location of drugs, the handler will inform you without taking any further action. Byers K9 Service is not affiliated with law enforcement, so any notification or involvement from law enforcement will be entirely up to the client's discretion.

We prefer passive searches, where the dog operates in an area devoid of people for liability reasons. Clients may accompany us, but we will guide them on safe positioning. In schools, for instance, we conduct searches of lockers when students are not in the hallways, and students are asked to leave their bags in classrooms and exit to the hall while the search is being conducted. This approach ensures the safety of both the dogs and clients.
PREPERATION
We hold a valid license from the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) to maintain actual narcotics for conducting realistic on-site training. This authorization enables us to perform proficiency and reinforcement training in authentic operational conditions at any location, at any time, ensuring that we uphold the highest standards of success.
Odor training varies from trace amounts to larger quantities. Case studies indicate that K9s can detect odors even after the substances have been removed. During training, we challenge our K9s with different amounts of substances, varying durations of concealment, and blank scenarios to ensure they do not produce false positives.

Our team actively reviews law enforcement publications to stay informed about new variations of substances, hide placements used by criminals, and challenges faced by law enforcement. It's crucial to deploy the right team at the outset; we are the team that leads the way and sets industry standards for our competitors. By employing the best, we ensure that we provide our clients with exceptional service and results.
